Lost, Season 3, Episode 13, "There's No Place Like Home: Parts 2 and 3."

Who is Jeremy Bentham? It was a mystery that was introduced at the start of Thursday night's Lost episode, and it was answered shortly before the end of the show. The season three flash forward was the jumping off point, and the season four finale culminated in the revelation that John Locke was the man in the coffin. How he got there, and why he chose such a pretentious pseudonym are no doubt mysteries that will be solved by the end of season five.

Despite the fact that I knew Hurley, Kate, Sun, Jack, Sayid, and Ben were never in an real danger, the episode did generate some suspense regarding the ultimate fate of Jin. It is conceivable that he was able to jump clear of the boat before the blast. Faraday, Lewis, and the red-shirts in the raft are other loose ends that will help generate a little bit of suspense next season. I hope they don't pull a Nikki and Paulo on poor Faraday and Lewis. Having the two lovebirds play Uruguayan rugby with the red-shirts on the Zodiac would simply be too cruel.

A Huey, a Zodiac, and an old Volkswagen bus are retro, but the machinery Ben was using to move the island was flat out antiquated. We've got the answer to why Ben was wearing a parka in the desert, but an even more interesting question is how long "scientific" research has been taking place on the island. That wheel Ben was turning was so...19th century? 18th Century? I was relieved that it wasn't Michael Emerson in the coffin. As much as like Terry O'Quinn, Emerson draws attention away from Matthew Fox's lack of charisma when they are in a scene together.

I'm not looking forward to Jack assuming the mantle of "the chosen one" in season five. However, the writers have so many irons in the fire with different cast members that Mark Hamill Matthew Fox's distinct lack of charisma doesn't really matter. I can't wait for the Han Solo Sawyer and Chewbacca Hurley reunion in season five.

N.B. Another tip of the porkpie hat to my good friend Rocky, who provided me with the perfect punchline to my running gag.
