Generation Kill, Episode 6, "Stay Frosty"

This post is going to be short and sweet. At this point in the series, I think they should tone down Captain America's blatant cowardice. I'm sure it's an accurate depiction of what really happened, and I'm well aware of the fact that the truth is frequently stranger than fiction. However, Captain America's whole Captain Yossarian routine does comes off as slightly contrived when it's presented in a drama.

I'm now certain that Captain America has been to some third rate university at some point. He mangles Joseph Heller while talking to Lieutenant Fick in this episode and I thought the following quote was indicative of how inadequate his cultural moorings are to his current line of work:

Nate, you have to become insane to survive in combat.

Later in the episode, Sergeant Colbert quotes Shakespeare before the Marines ride into Baghdad. It's nothing obscure, and he could have heard it on Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. However, Burns and Simon get points in my book for not stacking the deck against the officers and non-commissioned officers. For every trigger happy Falstaff wandering around Iraq, there is at least one thoughtful, brave, King Harry looking out for the men under his command.
