Weeds, Season 4, Episode 9, "Little Boats"

Two duds in a row! I thought the latest episode of Weeds, "Little Boats", might be a little more interesting, but the writers were content to tread water instead of advancing the plot. I've already said everything I want to say about Carrie Bradshaw and Mr. Big Nancy and Esteban, so this is going to be a short post.

The show suffered from the same problem as last week - the writers had too many irons in the fire. Most of the shorter stories that the writers have been following would have made great secondary stories, but as smaller parts of a broader tapestry lack oomph.

Shane's Oedipus Complex is pretty gross, but if you are going to introduce it into the show, you might as well try and milk it as the "B" storyline instead of chasing a bunch of little narrative thread. Shane is already pretty creepy. In future episodes, the writers should let the professionals - Doug and Andy - handle the sexual perversity.
