Folex

Oprah is a person that I’m indifferent too. I never understood the fuss that her book club generated in some circles. Still, there is one thing I agree with her on – these watches are pretty cool. Mashing up classic – and previously inaccessible - designs with fashion forward colors and patterns is nifty trick. It's very bling, but more importantly, it's relatively affordable. All this and it has a little bit more cheek than a Folex.

I like that sort of thing. I don’t know whether or not the economy is tanking, but I’d hate to see a return to anything like the status quo of the eighties. Lisa and I will make the jump from cable to satellite television this weekend (it’s cheaper) and she was wondering why it seemed so weird that satellite would, in fact, be cheaper than cable.

I suspect part of the reason is because when we were growing up, satellite was something that only really well off people could afford. The bar wasn’t impossible, but it was the sort of toy that lawyers, doctors, and successful businessmen had, not the every day rank and file.

Now, the entry level for perks like this is set ridiculously low – when I was working as an Assistant teacher in Japan, my peers making entry level salaries could afford to get satellite television. That is progress, of a sort, and it would be sad to see it all lost during a recession, no matter what our social betters tell us.
